COPE Sponsors Mental Health Play Performance at Local High Schools
United Way of Northern Ozaukee and the Charles E. Kubly Foundation provided funding for COPE to present NAMI/Milwaukee’s Mental Health play, “Pieces: In my own voice” at Port Washington and Grafton high schools in 2016.
The play addresses common mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD and suicide, spoken from the perspective of a young person. Loud, raucous music and a dance performance concludes the performance, signifying recovery. Afterward, counselors and other mental health resource providers take the stage to answer questions from the students.
The response from the high school students was outstanding, and we are very grateful to have been involved with this hard-hitting educational project. We hope to work with NAMI/Milwaukee in the future so that we can bring this excellent performance and others to young people in the community.
